History
Recognizing that American Indian businesses were not being included in minority
business programs at some local public agencies, a group of seven people from
the American Indian community assembled in October 1987 in order to formulate a
plan to explore the possibility of organizing an American Indian Chamber of
Commerce. This group was interested in helping American Indian business
owners grow and develop their firms. |

About AICCT
Their first priority was to work with certification agencies to help American
Indian business owners obtain their minority business enterprise (MBE) certification status.
Obtaining MBE certification would make it possible for their members to secure
contracts from public agencies and major corporations under MBE programs.
As a result of their efforts, the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Texas
(AICCT) was incorporated in 1988.
